Psychiatric Mental Health Attendant/Technician
Job Purpose
Doctors Hospital Health System is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Psychiatric Mental Health Attendant/Technician. The role of the Psychiatric Mental Health Attendant is to provide vital support to the nursing staff in the delivery of high-quality care to patients with psychiatric and mental health needs. The successful candidates will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of our patients while demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in all aspects of their work. Responsibilities:
- Maintains a safe environment
- Responds to and assists with behavioral emergencies
- Provides a therapeutic milieu and exceptional patient satisfaction
- Performs 15 minute checks and documents / records changes
- Observes, documents and reports patient behavior, ADLS, activity level, following the objectives
- Utilizes therapeutic communication techniques
- Reports any changes in patient’s condition to RN
- Implements and facilitates unit activities and therapeutic groups as assigned
- Recognizes behavioral and basic physical crisis situation and intervenes under the direct supervision of the RN including verbal de-escalation, physical maneuvers and application and release of restraints/seclusion
- Interacts with patients in a therapeutic manner and provides guidance, support and assistance with activities of daily living when indicated
Required Qualifications:
Mandatory:
- An active BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required
- High school diploma
- Strong communication skills
- CPR Certification (within 3 months of hire)
- Crisis Intervention training (within 3 months of hire)
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of inpatient psychiatric experience preferred
- Prefer one year of psychiatric acute care hospital experience within the last three years
- Postsecondary education in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, health and human services or related field
- American Association of Psychiatric Technicians (AAPT) Certification
- Valid driver’s license
Working Environment:
- May work at off-site facility/ client site
- May be exposed to blood-borne pathogens, chemotherapeutic and toxic chemicals
